Cheap Home Security Systems Are Not Always The Way To Go
You’re looking to protect your home but you’d like to save a little money in the process. Should you go with the cheap home security system or should you spend a little more money and spring for the more advanced models? You might want to do the latter, as having the cheap home security system leaves you open to system failure, burglars who know how to disarm the systems as well as lack of major security. Therefore, you might want to spend the extra money. Unless you just want a little security to give you a little peace of mind. It’s all up to you, but if you want the best security, definitely do not go with the cheap home security system.
System Failure
As with anything, you truly get what you pay for. When you go with the cheap home security system, you leave yourself up to the product failing when you need it most. What happens if a burglar breaks into your home and the system fails to go off? You could have been alerted to the break in had you sprung for the more advanced system. Therefore, don’t go with the cheap home security system if you don’t want this scenario to occur.
Knowledgeable Burglars
The truth is that if a burglar really knows what he or she is doing, they’re going to be able to bypass your security system, get into your home and do whatever it is they’re wanting to do; regardless of how much money you’ve spent on your system. However, by going with the cheap home security system, you increase your chances of this happening. Most burglars don’t know how to bypass alarms and will therefore look for houses that don’t have any system at all. But to make sure your home is as secure as possible, you might want to opt for a more advanced home security system.
If you are going to go with a cheap home security system, at least make it look like you have the best system on the market. Post signs in your yard and in your windows stating that your home is protected with the most advanced system on the market. Burglars, even knowledgeable ones, will be more likely to choose another house on the block that doesn’t have any security system at all. You don’t have to advertise that you got the cheap home security system, after all.

Thank you very much for the article. I completely agree that going with the cheapest system is rarely the best option. Too often, a home owner will simply search the market for the cheapest product and invest in that home security system without doing their homework and determining the type of system that would work best for their needs. It is important to do some research and find a system that you feel comfortable with and that will give you the highest level of security for your dollar invested. A “one size fits all” security system simply doesn’t provide the level of security that a system built for your needs does and often givesa false sense of comfort.
Thanks for the article. I think what it really comes down to is value. While some systems have a lower initial investment, they tend to have higher ongoing service and repair issues … or worse, they don’t work at all when they are needed. Systems from established, reliable companies may require a higher initial investment, but they come with a performance warranty, an equipment and labor warranty, an emergency service guarantee, a false alarm fine guarantee and a satisfaction guarantee. Often the “cheap” systems actually cost more.
