Do I Need An Anti Theft Alarm System?
When deciding whether or not you need an anti theft alarm system you need to consider some factors. This article is going to take a look at those factors so that you can best determine whether or not to purchase and anti theft alarm system.
Things To Consider Before Purchasing An Anti Theft Alarm System:
The first and most important factor is how likely is it that the system will see use. What I mean by this is not how often will you use it, but how often is it that your system will need to be activated. If you live in a remote area and are looking to protect your home it would probably be a better investment to simply get a good dog. If you have a business that is in a high crime area, than you are going to need a very robust anti theft alarm system to deter criminals as well as make it known that your business can not be taken advantage of.
The second thing to consider is how valuable is the items that you are trying to protect. It is foolish to spend more on an alarm system than the value of the goods that you are trying to protect, and many anti theft alarm systems can run into the multiple thousands of dollars. If you do have equipment that is fairly expensive and needs protection than of course consider the anti theft alarm system, but if you do not have any valuables in your business than perhaps you may want to look at alternative methods.
Which in turn brings us to the third thing to consider – is there another way to protect your valuables? While an anti theft alarm system is a great deterrent, they can be cumbersome to set and maintain. In addition false alarms can be a headache especially if the police are called in. Usually this will happen very late at night and will result in you having to drive to work in order to shut down the alarm, then call or greet the police when you get there. Not my idea of a fun Saturday night, but you may have a different opinion.
Again there are many ways to protect your stuff that would not require an anti theft alarm system. A good safe, a guard dog, a simple sign that gives the illusion of an alarm system, are all decent options. However in some cases there will be no getting around it, you will need a full anti theft alarm system. But it is best to know that that is your best option before jumping in.

Thanks for the post. I especially appreciate that you encourage people to preplan and not jump into a security system without research and considering personal needs. Too many companies sell one-size-fits all security systems and fail to consider how individual families use their homes.
