Setting Up Your Home Emergency Alarm System

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

You want to protect your home but have no idea how to set up an emergency alarm system.  This article is here to help you so that you can be sure that you install your emergency alarm system correctly.

The Basics Of An Emergency Alarm System

If you can you are going to want to make sure that every window, door, or other opening in your house has a sensor on it.  You can configure your system to not include these in the alarm, but having them hardwired into the system is the right thing to do.  So before you begin take stock of all the different entry points into your home no matter how remote and purchase the needed alarm systems for those.

Next install all the components and be sure to have enough wire to run them all to a central location.  I recommend setting up the panel near your garage entry because that will be you’re most common way in and out of the house.  If you have another point that you use more often you can set the center for your emergency alarm system there, but the garage is generally the best.

After you have set up that you are going to need to get some motion sensors.  Do not go crazy with these as you more than likely will only use them when you are out of town.  It can be quite alarming if your emergency alarm system goes off when get up to go to the bathroom.

The motion sensors should be set at strategic points in your home.  I recommend having one on all the stairs as they serve as good choke points in your home.  In addition you probably will want to have one on each of the doorways into your house, though that may not be needed with the alarms on the actual doors.

In addition you are going to want to talk to an alarm company to tie your system in with the local police department.  Most of the time your neighbors will probably just ignore a wailing siren, but a signal into the police dispatch has to be responded to.  This way you can assure that if the alarm is triggered someone will come to asses the situation.

That is about it.  So now you have the basics for your emergency alarm system, go out and get it setup to protect your home today.

All About The Car Alarm System

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

It seems that most of the new cars that are coming out already have some sort of car alarm system in them. Whether it is actually considered a standard feature or not, it seems that most people make sure that they are driving off the lot with something that has a car alarm system as they want to protect their investment. And when you are looking at how much cars and trucks cost, there is no doubt that the purchase of one is a huge investment.

The car alarm system does two things really, as it helps prevent someone from breaking in and it sounds an alarm, or an alert, if someone actually attempts to get into the car. Most cars with a car alarm system will have stickers on the windows and a blinking light on the dashboard to let everyone know that the car has an alarm and that it is activated. Most criminals are smart enough with this common fact and will look for these indicators and walk away if they see it. For those who don’t, the alarm will sound if they try to get in.

Getting It Installed

If you are driving a car that did not already come with a car alarm system, it may be time to start looking into having one put in. Installing a car alarm system is not too big of a job but it will cost you a good bit of money. And it is because of the cost that people tend to lean away from getting on in their car. But, when you weigh the total costs if your belongings and car is stolen versus how much it costs to install a car alarm system, you will see the benefits to getting it done.

If you are ready to have a car alarm system installed in your car, it is time to start making phone calls. There are several places such as dealerships that could help you out and they are all going to charge a different amount. Try to do as much searching as possible so that you can save a little bit of money. And if you luck out, you may find a dealership that is saving a sale on the installation of a car alarm system. If you find a great deal like that, make sure that you do not waste time and end up missing out on it.

Having A Remote Start Alarm System

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

With everyone starting to realize the true need for having security systems and alarms for their homes, offices, and their cars, it is no wonder that the makers of these systems are finding new ways to make them easier to use. Everyone seems to enjoy the remote as we have remotes for our televisions, for our radios, and even for some other unique things. So, why not a remote start alarm system so that the most important thing to your security can be taken care of in an easier and quicker fashion.

A remote start alarm system can be found for your home and even for your car but the car remote start alarm system seems to be the one that is most often purchased. Since they are becoming more and more popular, they are starting to become more affordable in price. This means that if you have been holding back because of the concern of money for the installation, you should no longer worry. Just imagine how much it would cost to have your car stolen along with all of your personal stuff that was in it at the time.

Installation Costs

There are ways to go about installing a remote start alarm system in your own car but this would only be suggested for those who have experience working on cars and these systems. That is because it can get very confusing and if it is not installed properly, then the remote start alarm system will not work. If it does not work after you try installing it you will be faced with still having to go to a dealer and having them do it. But now, you are out not only labor costs, but the time you wasted on the project as well.

Do not worry about the costs for installation of a remote start alarm system, as the cost of not getting it done could actually be so much higher. What you can do though, if you are short on cash, is to shop around for a little bit for the cheapest rates for remote start alarm system installation. This way, you will not get taken advantage of and you will have the best deal around. There is nothing wrong with wanting or needing to save money, but just do let that get in the way of having a remote start alarm system installed because it just is not worth saving that few bucks.

Auto Alarm Systems That Use Sensors Can Trigger Alarms For Even Minute Infractions

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

Today, car thieves are striking at your automobile with virtual impunity and if one goes by information related to auto thefts in the US one would be alarmed by the thought that in this country, an auto is broken into or stolen once in every twenty seconds. Thus, installing auto alarm systems has almost become a necessity and in fact manufacturers of auto alarm systems have been forced into finding novel means with which to defeat auto lifters and thus new deterrent features are constantly being developed and incorporated into latest auto alarm systems.

Feel More Secure

Thus, when one looks at the modern auto alarm systems, one must actually feel quite assured that one’s auto has been secured, especially as they are so different to how the original auto alarm systems worked. However, as advanced as the new auto alarm systems have become, determined auto lifters can still find ways and means with which to overcome most safety features.

To be sure, an auto alarm system works on the principle of using circuits that when disturbed will result in a siren sounding off, though more advanced auto alarm systems even makes use of sensors that can detect every possible type of threat being much more sensitive to vibrations and also to changes in pressure as well to light. For example, a shock sensor will cause an alarm to sound off in case someone hits or even moves your car.

In fact, the sophistication of modern auto alarm systems can be seen by the fact that the alarm can be made to sound differently depending on the strength of the shock felt and thus the alarm can be short or very loud or even non-stop alarm as shocks of different magnitudes are experienced. However, given the extreme sensitivity of sensors used in modern auto alarm systems, sometimes the alarm can even be triggered off when someone simply leans on the car or even when a big truck passes close by and the vibrations felt will trigger the alarm to sound off.

Though having auto alarm systems installed can give you greater piece of mind, there is no definite finding that can show for sure that such systems actually effectively can prevent your car from being broken into or stolen, and thus the debate on this topic rages on. While there is many experts that do not like the extreme sensitivity of sensors that trigger the alarm for trivial disturbances, others feel that such alarms can be useful because even accidental alarms will help to keep owners on their toes and not become immune to the alarm systems.

Do I Need Alarm System Smoke Detectors

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

Many people simply purchase off the shelf smoke detectors when instead they could take advantage of alarm system smoke detectors.  These units generally speaking are not much more than the off the shelf ones and in the right environment are invaluable.  This article is going to take a look at alarm system smoke detectors and why you should consider investing in them.

Differences Between Alarm System Smoke Detectors And Regular Smoke Detectors

In operation regular smoke detectors and alarm system smoke detectors are very similar.  They both are able to detect smoke in the air and when they do so the alarm goes off.  The difference is in what happens after that though.

A regular alarm will simply ring and ring and ring trying to wake you up.  This is fine but what if there is a problem and you are unable to move or wake up.  You could be fully aware of the danger and the alarm can not do anything to help you get out of it.

Alarm system smoke detectors are completely different.  They are actually tied into your alarm system and as such should have the capability to send a message to the local authorities.  What this means is that help will be on the way and you stand a much better chance of coming out of your situation if the authorities can help you than if they are unaware of your situation.

The alarm system smoke detectors will be able to communicate what is going in your home to the people who can help you, whereas the simple smoke detector can not.  Both have there uses but in my opinion if you are capable of getting alarm system smoke detectors then you should do so.  These will prove much more valuable if a situation arises where you need to use them.

If you currently have an alarm system than adding alarm system smoke detectors is fairly cheap and not nearly as expensive as installing the whole system from scratch.  Most home alarms are capable of handling these added features so you will just need to do the work to get them in and tied in.  Once you do so though you can rest assured knowing that your family is protected.

If you can not get alarm system smoke detectors, then you must get regular smoke alarms.  Having your home unprotected by anything is to great a risk and you owe it to yourself and your family to make sure you are taken care of.

Effective Alarm System Parts: Putting It All Together

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

With the recession, skyrocketing fuel prices and worldwide food shortages, we truly live in dangerous times.  When pushed into a corner, people will turn to crime in order to get money.  If you own any kind of property, don’t kid yourself – you are a target.  In order to stay safe and sane, you need you look at all of the pieces that make up effective alarm system parts.

Technology Is Only A Tool

Whether you buy an alarm system or make your own out of separate alarm system parts, you need to realize that these are only tools.  They can only do their job and cannot perform miracles.  Even with a professionally installed home security system or something you have rigged with separate alarm system parts, you still have to follow commonsense safety procedures.

You still need to keep your doors and windows locked.  You need to keep cash, purses and cell phones out of view from the windows (if at all possible).  You need to keep your prescription medicines out of sight and preferably in a locked cupboard.  If, for some reason, you have firearms in your home, keep them unloaded, hidden in places that wouldn’t be obvious to the average person.

You need to keep alert for news items about what trends in thefts are happening in your area.  For example, in the Philadelphia area, prescription medicines are targeted and need to be hidden as much as possible from the public eye.  In New Jersey, thieves are specifically targeting flat screen televisions.  Knowing what to keep a special eye on is one of the most important alarm system parts you can ever have.

Where To Get Them?

Some people prefer only to get certain individual alarm system parts like motion sensors, wireless sirens, panic buttons or a security company sign rather than pay for a complicated system or kit with features they will be paying for but probably never use.  These separate alarm system parts can be found in online home security stores and on online auction sites like eBay.

If you have opted for an entire do it yourself system like an Ademco or GE home alarm system, you will eventually need to replace or upgrade certain alarm system parts.  If the manufacturer can’t help you (or if you think they are charging too much), you can turn to online sources in order to get individual alarm system parts you need.

Insurance Discounts For Passive Alarm Systems

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

If you are considering equipping your car with a passive alarm system, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons – to protect your car.

Passive Alarm Systems

With a passive alarm system, the driver doesn’t need to do anything to activate the alarm. The alarm arms itself automatically, or passively, whether the driver remembers to activate the alarm or not. Passive alarm systems are considered to be superior to non-passive alarm systems because the passive systems do not rely on human intervention.

It’s easy to understand why a passive alarm system is better. Humans are forgetful, and the busier we get, the harder it is to remember to do little tasks like setting a car alarm when get out of the car, running late, busy, and heading for a business meeting.

Non-Passive Alarm Systems

Manual alarm systems require human action before activation. If the driver doesn’t remember to set the alarm, the car remains unprotected.

Insurance Discounts

Automobile insurance companies offer greater discounts for passive alarm systems than they do for non-passive systems. However, be advised that a passive system must be truly passive. If any human intervention is required to arm the alarm, even a simple door lock, most insurance companies will not offer the passive alarm discount.

Even if you do convince your insurer to grant you a passive alarm system discount, the discount often amounts to a very small amount. Usually the discount will be calculated as a percentage of your collision insurance coverage. Don’t expect the discount to cover the cost of your alarm system.

Even though the discount is minimal, most people are still happy to get any sort of discount on their car insurance. Usually it is the other way around, with the insurance company constantly raising rates and adding unexplained extra charges, so most drivers and automobile owners enjoy getting even a small discount on their car insurance.

Theft Deterrence

Remember, a passive alarm system is just one step in a program of automobile theft deterrence. Park your car inside a parking garage whenever you can. Always arm your alarm when you leave your car. Never leave valuables inside your car. The only thing a thief should see when he or she peeks inside your car window is empty seats, empty floors, and an activated alarm system, ready to go off and summon help if the thief is bold enough to try anything. Don’t leave your car unattended for long periods of time.

Alarm System Installation: No Guarantees, But Give Yourself Better Protection

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

Alarm system installation is perhaps the best way of ensuring that thieves will not break into your property because without any doubt, it helps make you feel a lot more secure and thus will help you get a sound night’s sleep reassured by the knowledge that your home has been secured even when you are getting some much needed rest at night. The sad truth that each and every home owner and resident has to face is that home burglaries and break-ins are on the rise and it has and will continue to cause much financial distress and even worse, perhaps loss of life as well.

Greater Risks

If you don’t take adequate precautions and ensure alarm system installation, you would be putting yourself at greater risk of having your possessions stolen. Thus, before things get out of hand, you should ensure choosing alarm system installation because even though it does not guarantee the safety of life and property, it will still help provide some protection since, in most instances of break-ins and burglaries; even the police are not always available when you need them the most.

Thus, it pays to consider alarm system installation very seriously because it helps to prevent costly mistakes from occurring and you also need to understand that all your security needs are best met through this means rather than relying on neighbors, your own resources, or the police. What’s more, you also can choose from different options when it comes to picking your alarm system installation which is good news given the fact that, when you hear those warning sounds each time someone comes close to your home, you can’t help but feel a lot more reassured knowing that an alarm will warn you in good time in case of unlawful entry.

An alarm system installation helps ward off would-be burglars since it helps in putting them off every time a spotlight shines on them, and thus, an alarm system installation gives you just the kind of protection that you need because it will make thieves and other intruders want to look elsewhere for easier targets to rob. You can also choose an alarm system installation that uses a camera that is able to pick different silhouettes and which then can create images of them so that police are in a better position to track down anyone that has broken into your home.

In fact, there is also a lot to choose from when it concerns different alarm system installation brands that are available on the market today and the Internet is actually a great place for sourcing precisely the alarm system you are looking for. Good options as far as safe and secure alarm system installation go include Brinks Security as well as ADT which are sure to protect you and your property like no other alarm system can.

The bottom line is that you should go for an alarm system installation that suits your pocket as well as your needs.

Always Monitor Your Alarm System Battery

Published by Author under Alarm Systems

There are many things in life that we take for granted.  We always assume the sun will rise to start a new day and that the air will be there for us to breathe.  It is pretty safe to take those things for granted I would suppose but some things in life are definitely not worth taking for granted at all.

Never assume that the maniac speeding towards the stop sign will stop in time to let you through the intersection and never forget to keep an eye on your alarm system battery.  People will usually forget their alarm system battery because most people do not install their own alarm systems so they do not see hands on where the alarm system battery is supposed to be.

The installer will point out the alarm system battery and warn the homeowner to keep an eye on it but many times it becomes just part of the wall and it is never checked.  It would be a shame to lose track of your alarm system battery and then when you need your alarm system the most you then find out that your alarm system battery is dead.  Always keep an eye on that alarm system battery for your sake and your family’s sake.

Most times the alarm system battery can be found in the alarm keypad.  These units are usually small and are not wired into any central power source from the house itself.  So the keypad unit will have the alarm system battery in it and they will usually have some sort of monitor on it to gauge battery strength. At the very worst they will flash an indicator when the alarm system battery is running very low and give you the chance to change it.

It Might Not Be That Easy

Make sure you ask the installer about the procedure needed to change out the battery.  In some cases pulling the power on the keypad could result in the alarm being triggered so be certain that you learn the procedure completely and, if you have a hard time remembering things like that, write it down so that you know exactly what you have to do should that battery ever go dead.

We take a lot of things for granted in our daily routine and unfortunately the alarm system battery can be one of them.  Make it a habit to regularly check the status of the battery and also make sure you know where all of the batteries in your alarm system are located.
