Should I Get An Electronic Alarm System?

Published by Author at 6:35 am under Alarm Systems

When deciding whether or not to purchase an electronic alarm system you need to consider some things.  This article is going to take a look at those factors so that you can best determine whether or not to buy an electronic alarm system.

Things To Consider Before Buying An Electronic Alarm System:

The first and most important factor is how likely is it that the system will see use.  What I mean by this is not how often will you use it, but how often is it that your system will need to be activated.  If you live in a remote area and are looking to protect your home it would probably be a better investment to simply get a good dog.  If you have a business that is in a high crime area, than you are going to need a very robust electronic alarm system to deter criminals as well as make it known that your business can not be taken advantage of.

The second thing to consider is how valuable is the items that you are trying to protect.  It is foolish to spend more on an alarm system than the value of the goods that you are trying to protect, and many electronic alarm systems can run into the multiple thousands of dollars.  If you do have equipment that is fairly expensive and needs protection than of course consider the security system, but if you do not have any valuables in your business than perhaps you may want to look at alternative methods.

Which in turn brings us to the third thing to consider – is there another way to protect your valuables?  While an electronic alarm system is a great deterrent, they can be cumbersome to set and maintain.  In addition false alarms can be a headache especially if the police are called in.  Usually this will happen very late at night and will result in you having to drive to work in order to shut down the alarm, then call or greet the police when you get there.  Not my idea of a fun Saturday night, but you may have a different opinion.

Again there are many ways to protect your stuff that would not require an electronic alarm system.  A good safe, a guard dog, a simple sign that gives the illusion of an alarm system, are all decent options.  However in some cases there will be no getting around it, you will need a full electronic alarm system.  But it is best to know that that is your best option before jumping in.

Good ideas to get people thinking about their needs and expectations. Once the decision has been made about getting a security system for your home. I would suggest that the home owner do their due diligence regarding security systems and get one that is a single source supplier and does not sub contract any part of the system including the monitoring. I would get a company that offers a six month unconditional money back guarantee if the home owner is unhappy with the system for any reason. Other guarantees offered should be intrusion detection; if the company fails to detect an itrusion then they should share in the home owners pain, parts and labor guarantee for as long as the home is being monitored and a false alarm guarantee so the security company will pay the fines if incured.
